The Chart Shows Wiki

As you may be aware, this group was hit severe by Mixcloud's changes in January 2023, and for others it's still happening, the updating is a bit slow, but is still happening, but if anyone can find a reliable solution, we'd like to hear from you. P.

REMEMBER THE LINKS TO THE SHOWS ARE ALWAYS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CORRESPONDING DATED PAGE

PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING OFF THESE PAGES WITHOUT CONSULTING US FIRST

PLEASE DO NOT CREATE NEW PAGES WITHOUT ASKING ADMIN FIRST[]

We have a system and its clear, we know whats missing, we don't need new pages to confuse people.[]

TO ALL USERS.... This wiki is so easy to navigate, if you need a certain show, just scroll down to the Year you need either you can click the Blue data for all the show data and the links and or just click the Year and the whole year of links will appear. ive made it usable in both ways in the one page. its simple to use.

HOWEVER.... You can add a new link to the page, and LEAVE the existing one intact (DO NOT REMOVE LINKS) if a link is broken either post broken link next to it or flag me up and ill sort it. its a possibility the user has only changed his name, this is easily rectified.

BUT PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT...... Do not change data on pages, this would undo ALL OUR HARD WORK WE DO. Do not change any of the layout, don't add new sections, do not change data, if something is titled in a certain way, its like that to be historically factual. Please do not add new sections to pages without asking us FIRST, i've just had to revert all the pages altered back to how they were before. All the data is already available on its own date page, so you do not need to create a NEW page for anything, everything has its place.

ok thats said, here's the best bit......

How to work out a broadcast date from a chart book[]

The charts between 1967 and 1987 were compiled on Tuesday morning, and broadcast on Radio 1 at 12.45pm, were then subsequently repeated at 5pm on Tuesday evening, (On Bank Holidays the chart was held on Wednesdays at 12.45pm) and a final repeat was on Sunday 5pm to 7pm, which was a day later than the w/e dates in the books and that is official.

If the chart data says in 1967 to 1987 Monday to Sunday 67-87 its completely incorrect, the chart week then was Tuesday to Tuesday, technically the final play of a chart was always on the Sunday usually dated the week ending the day before the last broadcast.

Chart Dating is a very complex thing the first NME Chart date was Friday, 14th November 1952, but the first day of chart action was really in w/e 8th November 1952, NME was actually published almost a week later than that

so sometimes MODERN announcers may say in a week beginning MONDAY... which is utter fantasy, the charts never ran a week from a Monday. so saying that is factually incorrect, even with the NME / Melody Maker / Disc & Music Echo and Record Mirror & Sounds charts which in fact would be a WEDNESDAY.. ahh you may say what about the missing charts 1940-52, well those were only compiled in the 21st century from available found re-order data.

This is a project to pull all the "original" chart shows (and some well produced reconstructions) into one place (But NOT modern playlist remakes) for easy access to listen or research purposes. with thanks to all who find and contribute.

As broadcast on Radio 1 Tuesday lunchtimes 12.45pm - 1.30pm, Tuesday evenings at 5pm and Sunday evenings 4pm to 7pm, and now Fridays 4pm - 5.45pm

Eager spotters will notice that Pick Of The Pops and Solid Gold Sixty were the titles for the Top 20 & Top 40 Official Chart Shows, and 1972-74 the Solid Gold Sixty sections are absent from the recordings.

and that before October 1987, the new chart was repeated on the Sunday and was this one day later than the week endings in the Guinness Books.

When we say "well produced reconstructions" we mean using original footage/fragments, such as an original broadcasted countdown or DJ intro as broadcast at the time on the BBC or ILR and some jingles as used in the "actual" show, and not from a retro type show (those have their own "sections").
